Niki van Strien

07-06-1979, Utrecht, The Netherlands

My work has to do with space, colour and rhythm also ordering and chaos. Through the manipulation of readymades and industrial scratch-material (the ordering of colour, self made forms and plain material use) I try to create a certain atmosphere that can be seen as landscape-like, scale-model-like but also as an abstract composition of material and form. When moving through a sculpture of mine, it is as if one is experiencing different facets of perception- from the microscopic detail to the blown up confrontation.
By exploring and playing with the duality of defining 'things' I try to expose the different perceptions we have when it comes to looking at our surrounding world.
